INDIGENOUS TREE IDENTIFICATION

Have you ever wondered about what tree grows in your garden, on a trail or along the roadside? Do you know which fruit or berries to enjoy and which to avoid? Do you know a kuduberry from a koobooberry? Why is a tree a tree? Do you know how to identify a tree?

These and many other interesting aspects are dealt with in our popular Tree Identification course offered at the beginner (or advanced) level by well-known and knowledgeable Dendrologists associated with the Dendrological Society. No prior knowledge is required and you will be guided in the use of a simple identification key to the point where you will actually be able to identify most trees around you. The course entails some theoretical material and extensive practical work in the veld. Certain course material is provided but participants are advised to invest in a prescribed field guide to trees which is available in print format or as an app for smartphones.

Our tree identification courses are conducted at Doorndraai on scheduled weekends starting the Friday evening and concluding Sunday at around noon, in either Afrikaans or English, or both, depending on the requirements of the attendees. Course dates and duration may be adapted to suit group requirements. You may either lodge or camp in order to attend the course.

This is an engaging and interesting course for individuals, for a husband and wife team, or for groups and team-building events.

Aardvark (Erdvark), Baboon, Blesbok, Blue Wildebeest, Brown Hyena, Buffalo, Bushbuck, Duiker, Eland, Giraffe, Impala, Jackal, Klipspringer, Kudu, Leopard, Monkey, Mountain Reedbuck, Nyala, Oryx (Gemsbok), Red Hartebeest, Ostrich, Steenbok, Tsessebe, Warthog, Waterbuck, Zebra, Bushpig.

FUNCTIONS

Weddings, conferences, seminars, strategic sessions, corporate functions and team building activities can be conducted at the conference facility. With its tranquil surroundings and bushveld magic, this is a truly exquisite venue.
